Everyday India Ruined 135 Hectare Forest Land:RTI

India Losing Major Part Of Forest Land Daily

Seems like nobody is concerned about depleting forest land.Large area of Forest land have been handed over to public and private agencies in the name of development projects.

RTI gathered data from ministry of environment and forests by a group of environmentalists on depletion of forest and the numbers were alarming.According to them 135 hectare or you can say 333 acres of land is occupied for development projects.

List of the Development Projects are:

1. Coal mines

2.  Thermal Power Plant

3. Industries

4. River Valley project

Members of Organization Environment Impact Assessment Resources and Response Centre(eRC),are also active in compiling data and confirmed that only Projects covers more than 40 hectare of area.

Which States are losing highest forest cover?

Advocate for Legal  Initiative for Forest and Environment,Ritwik Dutta said Karnatka claims the first position in losing Forset Land.

Following them Madhya Pradesh,Maharashtra,Chattisgarh,Arunachal Pradesh and Jharkhand are other states which are into largescale diversions.

State-wise data for diversion of land will be compiled soon,he adds.

Ritwik also appeals people to come forward against such projects which are reducing forest land.

Neeraj Vagholikar, member of Kalpavriksh (an environmental group) said that country is losing forest cover on large scale, yet central government releases figure on increase in forest cover.Government announces afforestation program to maintain the forest land area or for the sake of compensation to the depleted area.In reality no such forest covers exist and nobody is sure whether these programs will be implemented or not.
