24:- Tan Twan Eng Declared as the winner of Walter Scott Prize 2013


Malaysian author Tan Twan Eng was declared as the winner of Walter Scott Prize 2013 for his English Fiction Novel 'The Garden Of Evening Mists'.



He got 25000 pounds as price.Ceremony held at Melrose,situated at the Scottish borders.He won award during Borders book Festival which was held from June 13, 2013 to June 16,2013.

Duke of Buccleuch gave him the prize.The novel ''The Garden Of Evening Mists' is first one written by any overseas writer that has won 4-year old Walter Scott Prize.According to the new rule introduced in 2012,authors from commonwealth were made eligible for the entry into the competition for this prize.

Novel was shortlisted from an strong list of novels one of them was Bring Up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel.There were other novels also by English writers such as Rose Tremain,Anthony Quinn as well as Australian author Thomas Keneally.

On March 14,2013 he was also declared as the winner of 2012 Man Asian Literary Prize.He also became the first Malaysian author to win the most prestigious Literary Prize of Asia for the same novel 'The Garden Of Evening Mists'.
